Who we are
FasterGist is a news and trending stories website operated by Faster Aim Technology Limited, a company registered in Nigeria. Our website address is https://gist.fasteraim.com. You can reach us at [your contact email].
This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
What we collect
- Comments. When you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and website (if any) that you enter in the form, as well as your IP address and browser user agent string, which help us detect spam.
- Technical data. Like most websites, our server records your IP address, browser type, device, pages viewed and the time of your visit. We use this to keep the site secure and working properly.
- Messages. If you contact us by email or through a contact form, we keep what you send so we can reply.
Comments and Gravatar
An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture. Gravatar’s privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public next to your comment.
Cookies
- If you comment, you can choose to save your name, email and website in cookies so you don’t have to retype them next time. These cookies last one year.
- If you visit our login page, a temporary cookie checks whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is removed when you close your browser.
- When site staff log in, cookies save their login and screen settings. Login cookies last two days, or two weeks if “Remember Me” is selected.
- If you leave the site’s cache or analytics tools running (see below), those tools may also set cookies.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features, such as saved comment details, may then not work.
Analytics and advertising
We may use tools such as Google Analytics to understand how readers use the site, and we may show ads through services such as Google AdSense. These providers may use cookies and similar technologies to measure traffic and show relevant ads. You can learn how Google uses data at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and manage ad personalization at https://adssettings.google.com.
Fonts and third-party services
Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google’s servers and your IP address is shared with Google when a page loads. Sharing buttons (WhatsApp, X, Facebook) are plain links. They only share information with those services when you click them.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, social posts or other articles. Embedded content from other websites behaves in exactly the same way as if you had visited the other website. Those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, add their own tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including if you have an account and are logged in to that site.
Media
If you upload images to the site, please avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download images from the site and extract that data.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:
- Our hosting provider, which stores the site and its data
- Spam detection and security services that check comments and protect the site
- Analytics and advertising providers described above
- Authorities, where the law requires it
If you request a password reset (staff accounts only), your IP address is included in the reset email.
How long we keep your data
Comments and their details are kept indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting. Messages sent to us are kept as long as needed to deal with your request.
For registered users, if any, we store the information they provide in their profile. Users can see, edit or delete it at any time, except for their username. Site administrators can also see and edit it.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you can ask us to tell you what personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or limit how we use it, and you can object to certain uses. If you have left comments or have an account, you can request an exported file of the data we hold and ask us to erase it. This does not cover data we must keep for legal, administrative or security reasons. To make a request, write to [your contact email]. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Children
FasterGist is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
